I'm taking a vacation in a few weeks. I think it's been about 3 years since I've taken this much time off work. I've decided to revisit some of my most favorite memories of vacation.
1. Tour of the East Coast. Me and my brother flew for the first time alone to Vermont to stay with Aunt Luby in her little duplex which was cohabitated by giant carpenter ants that would "crunch" when you stepped on them. We explored the hills and creeks of the neighborhood and found a horse carcass and checked on it daily to see what new changes the decay had made. I had more than my fair share of Ben and Jerry's ice cream...pint by pint, and swore that the empty building across the road was haunted. Between the ghosts, carepenter ants, images of carcasses and a gurgling stomache it was difficult to sleep however very adventurous.
2. DISNEY LAND!!! It really was the happiest place on earth! The only thing I remember about this trip is being on the teacup ride and my mom asking us to go slower but we all kept going faster and she looked like she was gonna hurl. To a 5 year old it doesn't get better than that.
3. 8th Grade trip to Hawaii. I kissed a boy. Okay so it wasn't all it was hyped up to be. Especially since he and this other guy were on a bet to see which one of them could kiss more girls. I'm glad I didn't get lip herpes or mono. It was difinitley better than my first kiss in kindergarten...We were a real cute couple how we used to zip our coats together and hide underneath them like a tent...until he stuck his tongue down my throat. Not cool Eric...not cool.
4. Various visits to freeway rest stops. My dad would drop us off, wait for us to go in the bathroom then drive to the furthest parking spot and watch as we'd emerge from the facility looking around frantically for him. Feelings of abandonment vanished after the first few years and it became a game. A game that I very much enjoyed.
I know it'll be hard to top all of these but don't worry, I will have fun.
